In the framework of the German Egyptian Year of Science 2007, a workshop on the recent advances and future directions in the diagnosis and treatment of acute leukemia and aggressive lymphoma was held on Friday, November 2nd, 2007 at the German University of Cairo (GUC).
The German Egyptian Year of Science 2007 was an initiation of H.E. Prof. Hany Helal Egyptian Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research and H.E. Dr. Annette Schavan, the German Federal Minister of Higher Education & Research.
The workshop focused on diagnosis, treatment of acute leukemia and aggressive Lymphoma as well as understanding the biological processes underlying its development. The workshop provided a state-of –the art lectures by leading experts in the field to give young researchers the opportunity to explore this field of scientific excellence and to get involved into mutual scientific projects.
The workshop was chaired by:
- Prof. Dr. Dietrich W. Beelen, Director of the department of Bone marrow transplantation, University hospital of Essen.
- Prof. Dr. Hossam Kamel, Vice president, Cairo University
- Prof. Dr. Hamdy A. Azim, President of the Egyptian Hemato-Oncology Group (EHOG)
The Secretary General of the Workshop was Dr. Ahmed Ihab Abdelaziz MD, PhD and Assistant Professor of Molecular Medicine & Genetic Pathology, German University in Cairo (GUC).
This workshop made a significant contribution to the further development of the scientific co-operation between Germany and Egypt.
